Antti. I have found that when I pause a session and switch off the car. OBDkey will cease functioning.

Then the fastest way to get it working is to replug it first, make sure getting a blue light, THEN restart the session.

    Take 30 seconds at most.

You can also add BMW 135i in the list ;)
  • Hi, Taka! Does this happen at all when session is running? The problem I had with the Jetta was so that OBDKey needed to be replugged when ever ignition was turned off and then on. Independent of session being running or not.
  • Yes it happens from time to time, but I pause the session to save phone battery. So I don't know. I suspect is the problem with cars to OBDkey. Need to reset it everytime.

It is a OBDKey problem as the unit can not be reset to operation with ATZ, atleast on the Jetta.
  • Hello everybody! First of all let me thank and congratulate AOL for this great effort. I've already purchased and tested the BT-OBDKey standalone in my Renault Megane Coupe (2003) and it operated normally . I've already ordered the QSTARZ 818 Xtreme and I'm looking forward to test the whole system....

Just one question: How can I test the communication of OBDKey with RaceChrono (Nokia E65) WITHOUT the BT-GPS device?

    Thank you in advance!
  • edited December 2008
Sorry, you need some kind of GPS to test the OBDKey with RaceChrono. Nokia E65 doesn't have internal GPS so you probably need to wait for the QStarz to arrive. After you get the GPS, let me know if the OBD-II works, so I can add your car to the list (or fix any issues).
  • Dear aol and all, I wish you a happy new year with a lot of health and nice and fresh ideas like RaceChrono! I confirm that the combination QSTARZ 818 Xtreme - BT_OBDKey - E65/RaceChrono, works perfect for my Renault Megane Coupe (2003). The parameters that have been succesfully tested are Throttle, RPM and OBD speed. I still haven't found the "Break" parameter...
  • Thanks! Great to hear everything is working fine!

I have tested cheap ($56) chinese BT OBD2 reader from dealextreme and it works :)
Tested on european CANBUS Suzuki SX4.
Racechrono is great, I am missing some obd2 live data screen though.

Very good thanks! I added your wish to the wish list!
  • Hi to all in the Racechrono Team & all supporters, I wish you all everything of the best for 2009!

I've just tried Racechrono + OBDkey + Nokia N78 (internal GPS) on my 2008 Mazda MX-5 6spd Manual PRHT......... It all works!! Connectivity is a dream, everything finds each other in just about any sequence of power-up. Thanks for a really great tool.

One request: I would be really great if the Lap Timing summary tables as viewed in Racechrono could be exported exactly like that, to be able to see that same summary on a pc. Presently this is exported as the log file with traps, thats useful as well, but the summary table would be great to view and save on a pc.

Kind regards from a very sunny Cape Town, South Africa
  • Thanks for the report! Also thanks for the feature suggestion!

thank u for ur great racechrono.
  • It's also working profect with my Honda fit(Jazz).
  • It works...with
    2007 Lotus Elise R(European,Asia version) (tested v1.10 , nokia n95-1, qstarz bt-818x, obdkey)

Obdkey initializing connection is slow but works.
  • Is it normal that not all of the OBD signals can be displayed in Live view even though the select box is checked? I've tried one at a time, but I can only get about six from the list of obd selection list to be actually displayed. (v1.10 + OBDKey).
  • edited February 2009
I guess it's normal as not all cars support all channels. Six channels is not much though, usually such new cars support more. You can run the PC OBD-II software to see if it gives your more data.
  • the PC OBD-II software displays all data, Sorry, checked again I can see more than six when using Racechrono. The data I cannot see are all the Fuel Trims and Oxygen sensors. I see blank displays as I toggle through the Racechrono live view screens whenever these are selected, but they did show on the PC OBD-II software.
  • hi, i am using Racechrono on a N95 8G with an external GPS receiver 5hz (HG100 HUD GPS),
and soon i will have the obdkey (bluetooth version).
my car is an Audi A3 1.8t 8L 98'. i know that it's not an OBD II,
it uses, (VW / Audi) protocol KW1281. which as far as i understand, is like a OBD I.
will i have any luck logging channels with it using racechrono on my device ?, or it is only for logging OBD II channels ?
  • I don't know, but I'd guess it will work just fine, if you have the standard shape OBD connector in your car. Let me know if it worked.
  • yes, the connector is exactly the same, will let you know, when i test it.
  • Version 1.10: Perfectly working with my Megane R26 and obdkey.
    Thank you for your work.
  • 2002 Lada Samara 1.5i (Euro3, Bosch MP7.0 ) Version 1.10 works great with “ELM327 Bluetooth OBD-II Wireless Transceiver Dongle”
and TomTom MK-II BT GPS (thats on Nokia N80 with Jabra BT2010)
  • 2006 Nissan Primera P12 1.8 85kW - Version 1.10 works great with “ELM327 Bluetooth OBD-II Wireless Transceiver Dongle” and TomTom MK-II BT GPS (Nokia N80)

  • actually it seems like i am missing any obd2 sentences and these are all gps no ??
  • edited April 2009
These are all GPS, look up NMEA 0183 specs for how to translate them. Try to change gauges in live timer view to see if you have incoming OBD-II data. There should be $RCOBD sentences in that file too.
  • i was looking at the text file under session info - export to csv looks much better! :)
