I've been using the "screen sharing" feature of my Galaxy S4 with Samsung's SideSync (http://www.samsung.com/us/sidesync/). As far as I can tell it's Windows only, and might be specific to Samsung devices. I looked at a lot of solutions before finding this was available.
Another interesting option is to run Bluestacks (http://www.bluestacks.com/), which runs a real Android OS in a virtual machine. It's geared toward gaming and has its own quirks, but it worked when I tested it a few months ago. It might be interesting to compare performance for video overlays versus a native Android device. I suspect the performance would still be worse, especially with RC's hardware accelerated video processing, but I have no data to back that up.
